Melanie Hayes Counselling

Warm, Open-Minded & Empathetic Psychotherapy

Melanie Hayes, MA, RP

Registered Psychotherapist

I am so glad that you are here and considering support for the many struggles we encounter in life. To have a successful experience, it is important to make a therapeutic connection with your counsellor, so it is my hope through this website you will be able to find out more information about whether we would be a good fit to work towards your goals.

I have been told that my approach is warm, and client centred and creates a safe and compassionate environment where others feel supported and able to be themselves. My experience is in private practice and community based mental health, and I am passionate about helping others use their own strengths to find meaning in their life.

I have been supporting adults and youth with mild to severe mental illness since 2010. I graduated from Yorkville University with a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology in 2014. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and remain in good standing with the Ontario Association of Mental Health Practitioners (OAMHP).

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time at home with my husband and our daughter, travelling, seeing new places and meeting new people.

The curious paradox is that when I
accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
The good life is a process, not a state
of being. It is a direction not a destination.

- Carl Rogers

I provide individual counselling to adolescents and adults. I take pride in meeting everyone where they are at, and using a variety of treatment methods, combined with the client's own knowledge and experiences to help them meet their goals for counselling.

CBT - Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

provides tools to challenge

thought and behaviour

patterns to help cope with

symptoms of depression,

anxiety, and trauma.

DBT - Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Similar to CBT, Dialectical

Behaviour Therapy provides

us with skills to regulate and

tolerate intense emotions and

difficult situations through

mindfulness and acceptance.

TIR - Traumatic Incident Reduction

TIR is a method of reducing traumatic stress and emotional distress from painful events from the past or present by providing a safe space to examine unresolved emotions.

Therapeutic Approaches

I am passionate about supporting people who are struggling with the following:

  • Anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, OCD, panic)

  • Mood disorders (depression, bipolar)

  • Life stress

  • Interpersonal and relationship struggles

  • Self-esteem

  • Emotion regulation difficulties & Borderline Personality Disorder

  • Traumatic Experiences

People who are hurting don't need Avoiders, Protectors or Fixers. What we need are patient, loving witnesses. People to sit quietly and hold space for us.
